Picasso jasper ~

Picasso Jasper, also known as Picasso Stone, is a type of marble.  I have read that it is metamorphosed limestone rock.  The colours seen in the beads here are typical of this stone as are the streaky lines.

I haven't been able to find out much about this stone.  Wikipedia has no articles mentioning it.  What I did find was a collection of images on the web and a lapidary group forum in which members were warmly enthusiastic about it as a stone suitable for carving.

The feel of it is distinctive, variously described by people I know as silky or satiny, or even a little like suede.  What we all agree about is that it feels soft, quite different from many other polished stones.

This small pebble shows the usual range of markings across its surface.
