Citrine ~

A tiny citrine crystal
Citrine is a form of quartz.

I was disappointed to read in the Wikipedia article linked to here that naturally occurring citrine is rare, with most commercially sold citrine being heat-treated amethyst.

I don't know whether this is true of the two necklaces pictured here or not.

Whatever the case, the paler of the two necklaces is of unusually high transparency, an indicator of its quality as a gemstone.  I've never seen another like it!

When citrine occurs with amethyst the combination is called ametrine.  I've written about this in a separate entry.
