Concretions and Kansas pop rocks

The stones pictured here are a type of concretion.  Concretions can form from a number of different minerals and ores.  These form cement-style plugs in layers of sediment where there are holes or cavities.  For more information about the ones pictured here refer to the section of the Wikipedia article linked to above headed Kansas Pop Rocks.

These stones are also known by another name, a trade name, which is as disappointing as it is misguided.  The Earth does not produce trade names, so I am not including it.
