Garnet ~

The Garnet family includes six different types and a whole range of colours.  Most typically it is associated with a deep red.  The beads shown here are particularly dark, and handsome, I must say.  I have no idea what type of garnet they are.  When worn they are so dark as to appear almost black, as you can see in the image below:

But held up to the light you can see the dark winy colour well:

Garnet seems to be a relatively common gem found in many parts of the world.  Here is a rock in which tiny garnets are embedded:
