Herkimer diamond ~

Herkimer diamonds are a form of quartz crystal.  The name is a generic (general and descriptive) term for a naturally formed double terminated specimen which has six sides and eighteen facets.  They have been named from the county in the United States where a large number of high quality specimens were found.

This is a little one - very sparkly and also very easy to drop and lose due to its small size and many angles.  I keep it in a ring box with a good strong spring lid!
